dash back light
i just got my mk1 and went to drive at night last night and so obviously switched my lights on but no dash lights came on except the handbrake warning what could that becausing such a black out???

You missing any other electrics? Blown fuse? Bulbs, unlikely fo all of them but then again i wouldnt be too suprised..

How about blown bulbs? Is that a possibility? As this happend to mine and obviously once changed worked perfectily

My rheostat was the cause so i tried to clean it and still nothing so ended up just bypassing it and hey presto, dash lights HO!!!

Yeah sorry the dimmer switch, think i bridged green/white and blue/white wire so when you put the lights on full the dash lights were always on.
Was a while ago so coulda got those colour combos wrong.

blue/white is the variable lumination output (i.e clocks and trim lights)

So if I didn't have a bulb/wiring for the illumination of the heater controls, I should take power for the bulb from this wire?

Yeah but dont do what some people do and put 2W bulbs in there because it'll get hot and melt, which is why its a 'common problem'

Does anybody know what the correct voltage should be going in to the back of the headlight switch? My dimmer thingy keeps melting. (I've already destroyed two brand new ones!!)
