Connecting stereo

Fitting a stereo into the Golf C and the instructions refer to four connections. The red power lead (acc or ign), the black earth, the yellow battery lead, and blue/white powered aerial. I don't have a powered aerial, so thats one out the way. When I removed the old stereo it only had a red power and black earth connection so I don't appear to have a battery lead - is this right?

The old unit was always powered i.e not switched by ignition. What would I connect my red power lead to? Logic says the red goes to the red, but it refers to yellow being the battery connection?  :dontknow:

Could be the battery lead (yellow) is just there to maintain power for a clock display on the stereo I guess. You could just wire like-for-like compared to your old one.

Yeah, looked at it again today - think your right. As my stereo power isn't switched it will not need a yellow memory back up connection.

Have you fitted a stereo to your raleigh?

Yellow lead is constant live (maintains your stored stations, etc), with the red being a switched live (ie, stereo turns off when you turn the ignition off). No reason why you can't connect both to constant live, but you'll have to manually turn on/off the stereo independent of the ignition.

Sorry if I'm getting confused, but I only have a red cable coming of dash for stereo power. This was used to connnect to power old stereo and that was not switched by the ignition, so I assume my red lead is a constant live? Is it ok to connect up with just the constant live and earth?

It is ok yes! What mark is saying is that if the yellow wire is on the back of your newe stereo this can be connected to the red wire too. (i.e. both wires to the red in your dash)

This way you always have power to both but as mark says you must remember to turn the stereo off!

No stereo on the Raleigh yet - must be seom 80's stylie handlebar speakers around?!!
