Circuit board/speedo illumination

Hello all,

I have an ongoing issue with my clocks and MFA- Had loads of trouble with speedo not working etc. In the end a spanking new speedo was sourced from GPC and some old clocks bought from ebay (got well and truly shaf*ed on the price tho!).

I'm no expert, but I was recomended a local electrition (surrey/sussex border) who has taken the 'best bits' of all three clusters and they are now currently working (although the MFA will, i suspect, be shot for life!)

Anyway… apparently I could still do with a new Printed circuit board. Has anyone got a good 'un or know wher to find one? The bulb that illuminates the speedo has also gone, again does anyone know where I can find a replacement?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated. Help me shake off my dashboard blues! :cry:

Ps site is great and extremly helpfull! :D

Hi and welcome Chris

Send a PM to our member 'crazyquiff' as I'm sure he can help you with the circuit board.

There's been plenty of posting ref the lights but you want to get them direct from VW as cheaper than Halfords. Double check the old threads but I think from memory you want 2W bulbs. The standard are 1.2W but very dim so the uprated bulb will brighten your life a little!

Out of interest, what MK1 do you own, any pics for us to see?

Cheers
Andy

Thanks Hairyarse, will do.

A bit about my mk1;

I'm the lucky owner of a 51k mile all original Lhasa Campaign. Overall condition is amazing considering it is unrestored. I've known the original owner all my life - I always wanted the car growing up, and at the ripe old age of 19 I was able to prise it from his grasp! He replaced it with a new polo, but I think I got the better deal! :mrgreen:

In three years I've spent around ?3k on general consumables and some pretty serious work that was known about prior to purchase. Fuel lines/pump, clutch, front brakes, clocks (ahhh!), a few suspension components, new underseal etc.

The body is in fine fettle too, although there is a bit of 'tidying' to do but nothing major. A topic for another thread I think!

Once agian, the site really is a great resource- perhaps I will be able to attend a meet or two…?
