Car will not start
I have a Mk1 Cabrio Gti 1.8 8v that hasn't started for the last 2 months. Its had a new ignition coil, new in tank fuel pump and i have also re-wired the Dash wiring loom an everything works regarding the loom but it still has the same problem it just won't start. I have also just bought a new Fuel Pump Relay from VW but by the relay number on the top of it which is 167, info which i have read would suggest that i now have a Mk2/Mk3 16v Relay would i be correct in thinking this and would it stop the fuel pump from priming as the fuel pump does not prime when you turn the ignition on and it did before. Any help would be great

MOTY 2013
that is the wrong relay dude, it requires a -ve signal from the ecu to work, and since you have no ecu theres a problem there
what you need is a k-jet relay, gsf sell the one you want:
935VG0090 k-jet relay without limiter £ 23.20
to prove this either way, swap your 53 relay into the fuel pump socket. this will make the fuel pump come on with the ignition. its not safe to run it this way as it wont cut out the pump in a crash, but it'll get you motoring till the relay turns up
edit: oh and the 53 relay is for the horn, so bear that in mind if you do decide to drive it like that
