car stereo
Hi, Green horner here, haha.
Does anyone know what stereo I have to buy so it fits in the gap in the dash, i've tried 4 so far and they all stick out about an inch, i'm sincerely hoping that someone isn't going to tell me that i've got to put a tape deck in… 8O

Any standard stereo should fit in a mk1, the trouble you get is that on modern stereos theres that much wiring all that gets jammed up behind the unit because theres not a whole lot of room. The trick i found is to as ur feeding the stereo in get ur hand behind it and push all the cables down behind the heater controls.
A bit of gentle persuasion and it should click into place

try taking the ashtray out from the dash, no need to disconnect just put it to one side. Should then be able to work the wires at the back out of the way.
