car allmost cought fire

help having problems with dash wiring had alllights on put fog light on wire,s started to melt someone has had ago  before me and not made agood job of it do ineed afull loom or can you grt apart loom any advice would be great  gti mk1 con

I had similar problem, it actually depends on how much damage has been done, mine shorted out all the earth wires, so i had to take dash out (with a little help from an expert) and got another loom from a scrapper and managed to make a good one from two.
I tell you something, i've never sweat so much in my life trying to find spanner to undo battery!!!!

Know what you me Jakeboy, the 10mm couldn't have come quicker 8O   ,

My dash fire started at a short between the stereo power wire and the earth, then it shorted on the bulkhead and traveled to the light switch, and melted all but 6 wires :cry:

I cut all the melted wires out and soldered in replacement pieces, took for ever but, especialy trying to find where the wires with no insulation went, no colour left to see where they went (if they were still attached and not burnt away!), but got there in the end. Always a bit nervous now, got a fire extinguisher in the car just in case!

Good idea about the fire extinguisher mate think i might take you up on that one
