can i fit electric window?

iv got a 3 door '83 gti tintop and would like to fit electric windows to the front doors, id like to avoid using the unversal kits off ebay and likes if possible but i cant find anything suitable, im hoping 1 of you lovely wise people could point me in the right direction or if you know hows its done to let me know. thanks, kris.

I think mine are cabby regulators/motors and i has mk2 switchs. Feed taken from fuse box wih 20amp fuse.all i can tell you though. Got a door panel off of ya want some pics tomoz?

There are "proper" kits out there that replace the standard mech. Not very common though.

Cabby and hatchback window regulators are different. That's not to say you couldn't bodge/adapt a cabby one to a hatchback though.

if you are having trouble finding mk1 parts,  i think you will. i did fit mk2 ones to my mk 1 and they work fine, a bit of fabrication but they went in ok. just a thought!!

  where are your swiches fitted?

mk2 motors will fit to the mk1 mechanism.  Electric life sell a kit but it's about £250, comes with all new regulators and bosch motors.

doesn't Crazy sell a kit? if not it's quite simple to adapt a renault clio (or any other worm style mec motor) motor to the original window mecs

I have a original kit for sale in the classifieds, interior and electrical section.

Do not bother with the universal kits from Ebay as they are tat.

It is possible to cut up winder mechanisms and attach motors, not tried it with a Mk2 motor yet?
