Can anyone with a LHD mk1 help me?

Its the headlight switch,

Can you tell me the part number on the back of it for me please, a pic of the pins on the back would be really helpful too if possible?

Cheers!

Is the LHD a different switch ? No way would VW supply a LHD and a RHD switch ? Would they ?

LHD and RHD switches are the same, though quite a few variations with year.

It does appear to be different.

VW don't list any left-hand light switch. Got a pic of what's different, might not be a mk1 switch?

Cheers

I have 2 light switches in my hand both match the 2nd picture [although the part number is different ] .

The first picture is a bit of a mystery as even my very old Haynes shows the 2nd picture type switch .

:dontknow: Sorry old chap no idea ? What model is it from exactly ? Could it be from another VAG motor ?

Oh i would think it be a more reliable switch for later models , the larger X terminal would prevent terminal burning ?

GSF list 3 types .

93405      HEADLAMP SWITCH     G1 8/75 >7/80      16.50
93410    HEADLAMP SWITCH    G1C >7/86    10.00    Add
93410    HEADLAMP SWITCH    G1 8/80 >12/83    10.00    Add

Have you been to VW with the part number on the back ?

Happy hunting .

VW should tell you the part number if you give them your chassis number.

sorry, i've not really made myself very clear.

I converted my sisters LHD '82 cabrio from the bullet type fusebox to a LHD '92 cabrio blade type fusebox, so i don't have the chassis number for the car the loom came from, the plugs for the headlight switch are different so i need the different headlight switch.

arrr sorry my fault for not realising. have you thought about changing the plug to suit the UK style switch. i'm sure you can find that side of things in any scrapyard (VW parts bin and all that) on any VW of the era

Post

it is an option, although the main reason for changing the loom was due to the old one being chopped and repaired in so many different places before....dont really want to start doing the same thing again,

Post

you can do the plug without chopping it by removing the spade connections and inserting them back into the new plug. no chopping no soldering and looks orignal.
