Cabbie Hood Hydraulic question

Hi All

I had a scan through the forumand found some items regarding this but nothing specific (big forum, lots of posts). I have a 90 Cabbie and I cant seem to get the roof down using the power button. I have the key in the O position, engine not running etc, pop the release handles and nothing happens. The motor clicks but nothing more, I have undone the key release and opened th hood manually and checked the fluid levels. IN the up position the levels are bang on midway between the max and min, in the open position it is about an inch over the max…. what can I do and where do I start looking.

Cheers

My electric roof only works when the ignition is one notch after 'off'.  But then again, if you can hear a click, it must be OK.  Would probably start by checking connections behind the hood switch button on the lower dash.

THanks Danny, I will give it a go, the click comes from the hood motor so I am guessing that that connection should be good. Could this be a blown relay ?

I've never had a problem with my powered roof (touch wood) but I heard someone else had an intermittent problem that would go away if the relays were wiggled! Pull each relay and check the terminals are clean

Hopefully the following pdf's will help a bit…

Thnaks guys, I will try these things out, getting a new hood fitted soon so I want the transition to go smooth as possible.

Any thoughts about the fluid levels ? is it worth just raising and lowering the roof manually a couple of time and re checking it?

Will do, that is becoming a required read. Any idea what sort of figures I would be looking at for a replacement hood. I already have a new mohair hood and side cables.

I would be concerned about doing something daft and wrecking the hood in the process. In this case I think I need someone whom is familiar with the ways of the force.
