buzzing relay

Hi I removed the wipers complete to grease the spindles etc. Motor and wipers work fine when powered straight from battery. When ignition is turned on relay number 17 buzzes car will not run and no wipers either. The reason I removed the wipers was when on they were very slow and then stalled and stopped the car running.
Help please.

Tell us what car and where the relay is located on the fuze board .

Sorry I forgot to tell you its an A reg Campaign the relay is the second from the left on the fuse board above the fuses. I did have a diagram saying what the relays do but Ive lost it.

Fuel pump relay ? Any thing got wet ?

Yes mate sorry i meant the fuze box being wet , strange that fiddling with the wipers has caused this ?

Ok had a little play tonight, car wont start with wipers discon. buzzing when recon, no wipers or most other things. Removed ignition plug from control box in scuttle and replaced then had a fiddle with fuse box connections on rear of box. Replaced wiper plug wipers started and so did car everything works perfectly now, wipers best they have ever been for speed. Just worries me that if I was on the motorway and put the wipers on and the car stopped!!
Now a lot happier

Finaly found the problem was  bad earth to the wiper motor! Ran a seperate earth to the motor and everything is great wipers are very good and no buzzing relay
