Brake Warning Light

Hi everyone,

Just got myself a 1978 1.6 carby golf a few months ago and have an issue with the brake warning light that wont disappear.

Brake lights work and checked both switches on the master cylinder.

One was faulty so that was replaced but still have the light on that wont go away

I have unplugged the switches one at a time and the brake lights stay on. Brakes still work so not sure whats causing this.

It has a Series 1 fusebox, looking in the haynes it says 1975

Any ideas on what needs checking or what the issue could be?

Not got a series 1 myself, but is this a light that should or would come on when the handbrake is applied? Had an opposite problem to you as could not get my light to work and turned out to be the switch under the handbrake.
