Brake lights

Got problem with my lights, easier to give a list of what works and what doesnt and if anyone could give me any pointers at what to look at would be gresat,

Working:
Rear fog lights,
Front Sidelights,
Full beam,
Indicators,
1 rear sidelight,

Not working:
right hand side rear sidelight
Brake lights,


Changed all the bulbs and nothing, jsut find it abit weired when the rear sidelights work but the brake lights do not, not sure if a fuse controls the brake lights seperately??

Any things to look at would be much appreciated

There is a brake light switch above the pedel, have you checked to see if it's working. Short the wires out and see if this works this'll prove the switch. Rear sidelight could still be a faulty bulb also make sure the connection is clean and bright.

My brake lights stopped working on my last one and all it was was a fuse under the dash on the passenger side

You do have twin filament bulbs in ? Is this a GTI 1983 or a late cabriolet ?   


Feed for side light uses the same cable as left side so the problem will be at back light cluster or wiring near it [ number plate light also fed from here ]
