Boot light

For a while now I've been trying to figure out why my boot light doesn't work. I've never had a peep out of it. This morning I forgot to turn my lights off and hey presto on opening the boot to get my gear, the light was on!

Can anybody point me right to getting this working as I'm off to the gym at 6.15am and it's as dark as you like, making it difficult to find stuff in the boot.

Thanks

Tian :dontknow:

Had similar problem with the one in my mk2. In my case the little plastic button/switch (that is held in and off by the tailgate when it's down) was sticking in its recess. Check this first, other than that check you earths, particularly the boot floor ones.

The switch works just dandy, I'll have a look at the earths in the boot tonight though (with a torch)

Thanks

Sounds like its working fine! Its supposed to only come on when the lights are turned on 8O

Are you sure, would be a bit pointless? You have to unlock the car, turn ignition and lights on just to see in the boot? Cabin courtesy lights work regardless of whether lights are on would have thought boot is the same, is in my mk2 :dontknow:

Are you saying that it only works when the lights are on?!?!

Surely this can't be right. It ought to work when the boot is opened regardless of if the lights are on or not.

I'm tempted to rewire mine so it works with or without the lights on.

The boot light is definatly how you tell a season owner to a newbee, I found out how it worked when i stopped one day to put something in the boot and didn't turn the lights off. bingo it works!!!

On wiring it up permentally I would quess  the loom is direct from the live for the rear lights for simplicity :dontknow:

Yeah, I believe it is - so you'd have to find and run a permanent live, and possibly do something else with the wiring too. Shouldn't be too hard, though, in fact thinking about it I already have a live feed into the boot for sometihng else……

That's a bit harsh, I wouldn't say ew was a newbee.

I've been called worse though.

The boot light is a cabby-only feature, AFAIK.
