Battery or other problem?

Hi there,

hoping for a bit of advise on this problem my cabby is having: didn't drive it for about 5 weeks back in sept/oct & charged battery back up via jump leads before using it again. Then a week later I forgot to turn off the lights while in work so battery went empty again. That time I started it up with a battery jump start kit and drove normally from then on. That was about two weeks ago. Since then I've been having problems with the battery being flat either over the weekend or over night.

A mate suggested I never charged the battery back up fully as I am driving with lights on and radio etc. So we charged the battery back up ver night and I was able to use ot the next morning but the morning after the battery was flat again. We tried charging the battery back up again and this time the charging unit indicated that the battery was charged after only half an hour of charging?

I am wondering if the battery might actually be gone by now or if something is draining my battery? What would be the best way to find out?

Thanks

If you left your lights on all day it may have killed the battery. A complete drain is not good. If you lights were left on it would pull every last bit of energy out of it. Simple solution is to buy a new battery. There not the most expensive thing and also a new battery never hurt any car, plus with the winter coming it might be a good thing.

Give it a try. If your problems started after a long battery drain, it cant be any thing else. Let me know how you get on.

Hi,

so I first of all replaced the battery & all seems good for now. Still running and starting badly but I discovered there is a little vacuum hose broken off coming from the vacuum servo pipe and going to the distributor. Could this lead to the car starting badly?

I think any hose that comes loose in the engine bay that is meant to connected to something is going to cause issues so I would fix the loose hose and see if that rectifies it.
