Battery light & oil light

Hey, when starting my mk1 golf i notice when i turn the key but not to ignition just so the light's e.t.c. will come on the red LED light of the battery stays on and the oil light flashes. These both vanish when the ignition is on and the car is running. Now i think this means i need a new battery but the battery should be up for replacement right now. I was just wondering if the light comes on all the time new battery or not, My dad mentioned that he 'thought' it did it all the time (was'nt to sure though)? And to be honest i am meaning to change the oil filter this weekend and drain it e.t.c. but any advice?

I did panic though when moving off in first it started to judder, i thought it was me with the clutch but i saw the battery light flicker very fast, and the car worked fine after i was off? any help will be appreciated!

Nothing wrong there, the battery, oil and water lights flash when you have the electrics on as the sensors etc are powered, but obviously there is no battery charge, oil pressure or water temp. This lights should go out once the car is started. You only need to worry if you have any of these lights working/flashing while the engine is running.
