Audio help please

Im looking for some nice speaker set up in the MK1.

I have the door pocket speakers and some either side of the parcel shelf, these are really poor as just cant get any nice depth, my head unit seems to cut off aswell when i turn above 14 as though its saying speakers cant go up any further. the headunits a alpine and a decent one.

I dont really want to go into doing drilling into the floorpan if i dont have to

Is the sub/amp route the only options out there or is there any other methods to getting a nice sound in the car.

Links to products and ideas would be helpful cheers

I bought some JVC door pocket speakers for my cab, they are run by an amp, and I have some fairly expensive 6x9's in the parcel shelf they are also run by an amp.  The normal head unit speaker cables run tweeters on the dash and two small speakers in the rear speaker slots (these dont do alot tho).

I'm also toying with the idea of making a little MDF sub box for the boot, as I've found a 10" sub in my house when I was clearing out some rubbish. This is because when you have the hood down it completely covers over the 6x9's and you just have the front speakers which develop very little base.

fit later cabby door pockets they're bigger so can fit better speakers in it. cant help with the rears though. what i would do is look for or make an mdf stealth shelf and put larger speakers in there. i have a set of 6x9s in my mk2 and they sound great

sub in the boot some decent tweeters in the front and cut all the high and low range out of the 4 you already have in there and bobs your uncle ..
