alternator upgrade??

hiya ,is it possible to by an uprated alternator with a higher output i have an 82 gti with original dieing alternator with a large power demanding sound setup , and need to buy a new one ,is their any modifications needed loom wise if it is possible , thanks for your help cheers,

If it's the single long bolt through the mount style, then plenty of late 80's Audi's have a 90A alternator.

I USED THE 90A FROM A AUDI,JUST SWAP OVER THE PULLEY AND YOUR AWAY

that sounds good do you know what specific audi's i could take one off year, model etc .thanks

My last one came from a 2.0 Audi 80 from 89-90. The sticker on the side gives it's rating.

What about the plug, is that the same or do you need a piece of the loom as well?

my one is a three pin plug.

I think the diesels have a 90A on some models too.

mine had the two nuts on not a plug,but it said 90A on the side plate

Hi guys, i'm kinda new in the forum, and new to the mk1 as well.

I've just recently discovered my original alternator is dead. I have one from a Mk2 GTI. Will it be ok to use this alternator as a replacement for my dead one?

Any help would be great.

Yes mate , most parts from the VW range are compatible
