alternator problem?

Hi,

I think Im having a problem with alternator.

When the ignition is on 1st stage

the battery light doesn't come on, only the oil pressure comes on

the car starts little bit poor and the batter light come on and off on idle..

when I accelate the light goes off

is it the regulator and brush problem??

where can I get it?

It's 1976 golf ls 1600cc carby model

the regulator is ingram.. made in australia

on regulater, it says 831256

as golf is made in aus..

I just took it off and check..

one brush is way shorter than the other one..

is it just because of worn brush?

any cheap repair advice please?

Cheapest option would be to change the voltage regulator. If one brush is shorter than the other then change it. Gst do them for around a tenner. Cheap and easy. Also check all connections to alternator. From battery and all earth points.
