alternator help

Mine's knackered. Can anyone tell me what amp I need for an 84 1.8 gti cabriolet? Ta

i would say thats the min amps if you have not got electric windows ? what up with it ?

I don't have electric windows.

It's completely dead, no voltage coming off it at all.

Have you taken the the regulator of the back and looked at the brushes ?
  what alt have you  bosch ?

Sorry for delayed reply, internet went down at home.

Turns out it was working intermittently but never putting out it's full voltage (which would explain why I've been having battery trouble too).

A friend had a spare alternator lying about, swapped 'em over and she's running fine again.

You can usually get the old one 'refurbed' for ?10-?15 (At least thats what I last paid)

i.e new brushes and regulator
