All day and no joy

I know this has been asnswered lots of times but i have tried all comon answers, the problem im having is my dash fails when i turn on my lights!! when i use the dimmer with the lights on i loose my revs if i turn it the other way i get revs, no matter where the dimmer is i loose my mfa and dash lights.

I have tried a new switch?? could i be unlucky and have two duff switches??? The 1 i bought was off ebay second hand but assured it worked.

Also rocker cover earth

Today i tried all again and tried to get clocks out but couldnt manage to get them out ??? is there anymore ideas to try
Thanks again i have searched the forum but most say to try what has already been done cheers for the help

If you can't get the clocks out, you've not checked the condition of its connector at the back, and its probably a dodgy earth (or other wires too) which is causing the issues.

The clocks aren't too hard to remove. You remove the dash insert by pulling off the heater levers, trim clips which hide the screws, then unscrew and remove it. Then the clocks are held with a couple of screws at the top and undo the speedo cable and electrical connector.

Have you undone its screws and disconnected the speedo cable and 1 or 2 plugs at the back?

Do a quick inspection of the bulbs, on the exterior of the car, could be a short bulb is dropping the 12v thus causing the other problems.

Electrically speaking it sounds like a short.

Oh also check you've put the stop & tail bulbs in correctly…

If your revs are dropping its doing something to the other 12v lines for sure, possibly feeding back through the dash, could be a short on the ignition switch even….

Checking earths is good practice with all electrical faults, they are notoriously inadequate on a lot of cars.

Next up would be isolating the dash by removing the plugs, you can try that 1st if you like…..upto you

Thats all I can think of about now….

the multiplug that goes to the clocks has an earth which goes to the rocker cover make sure this is connected if it isnt it will cause all kind of weird dash problems also the plug itself may not be all the way home make sure its on nice and snug
