alarm promblem please help!!!!

i have a cat 1 alarm on my golf. it started going off for no reason last night and for all my efforts would not stop.the alarm was arming and disarming remotley as the alarm was still sounding?as a last resort i pulled the power off the battery to save face with the neighbours.the alarm to my dismay carryed on because of the battery back up!!!!! after 15 mins or so it stopped.i reconnected the power to see if this would reset the alarm but to my dismay nothing had changed and i got another 15 mins of  bells.i checked the power of the battery and it seems to be ok (12.57v) on the meeter.the alarm is a gemel. i have a reset key but i cant find the alarm box and i have no instructions for it coz it was fitted befor i took the car on.please can any body help, alarms are a new thing for me. has anyone got a suggestion?i will be so gratefull

Unfortunately, alarms tend to be a non-servicable part (same as aftermarket immobilisors too). Proper approved alarms should have 2 earths and all the wires the same colour. You could check the quality of all the electrical connections, beyond thato its going to be a struggle troubleshooting the installation. I don't suppose you have the warranty card for the alarm? You could remove it completely, send it back to the manufacturer and they might send you another one?

thanks 4 replying.thought you might say somthing along those lines.the alarm is approved. its a cat 1 full closher job but its 6 years old so no chance in sending it back.would a bad earth tell the alarm that there was a drop in voltage and set off the battery back up side of things?if so this would explane the alarm not responding to the keyfob.i beleve an old battery on the car has the same effect

A bad earth would be interpreted as someone tried to cut one of the wires, so it would go off irrespective of the reset, etc.
