92 GTI only the high speed for wiper works

Having a wiper problem on my 92 GTI. Only the high speed and wash is working. When i use the intermitent the wiper parks all over the place. When i turn them off they sometimes continue to run. Have to turn the ignition off to get them to stop.

Am not familiar with the way the rear wiper works either. When i push the lever forward I get washer fluid to the back window. Not sure of the correct way to operate the rear wiper. I bought the car about 8 months ago and have no operators manual for it.

Ive replaced both the highbeam switch and the wiper switch. Am thinking maybe a possible relay problem?

Replaced the highbeam switch due to not having any headlights unless i held the highbeam switch in. Problem was the on/off switch its self.

Am mechanically skilled but electrical is my weak point. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

sounds like a stalk or relay fault. the relay is #19, try fitting a 99 relay out of a mk3 golf. even if it doesnt fix it you'll at least have variable intermittant wipers when you do! pre-90 mk2 golf stalks will fit if you can get hold of one of those to try

rear wiper should work same way the washers do. the fact the washers work means the stalk and wiring from it to fusebox is ok, so look at the rear motor, wiring and the control relay #20.

for relay positions see the fusebox sticky
