81 1.1L electric prob no wipers r lights dmstr not relay!?

I have a 1981 1.1l 5 door in silver 57000 miles (LittleNelly) and have a real problem with the electrics atm, the rear wiper rear lights, heater, rear demister, fog lights and front wipers have all cut out and dont work i have tried changing the relay as this happened before and it worked but now its happened again bought another new relay and worked for a bit with abit of wiggling about with wired and relay in the fuse box but now nothing ,  am confused as it is may be something really simple like a loose connection or burnt out wire?? but i cant find anything, anyone have any ideas? so i can drive her without worrying if its going to get cold, rain and get dark!

hi i know how you feel i have had prob and still got probs with the electrics on my mk1 1988 . with the lights had them fixed got ripped off twice at £1000 a time , now got prob not starting when hot put new start on and with new start would not start so put old one back .it started .rear fog light got no power to it. tell to sell it . onway love the love driving her etc . DONT GIVE UP YOU WILL GET IT ALL FIXED

Have you checked the fuse for the wipers?

I think it's #12.

Otherwise it sounds like you might have lost one of the 12V rails in the fusebox.

Might be time for a new fusebox which is a very easy swap and takes little time.

cheers mat  will get  cheaked . its looses voltage from the battery to the the starter when you use the ignition key ? when it is hot and been out in it you can leave it run to get hot it dont work . have to be drivin to get hot ?

Which relay have you checked?? I had similar problems en-route to NW meet last September, it turned out to be No 18 relay. Had everyone puzzled on the B & Q car park, needed an auto electrician to check it out and find.

not checked the relay yet it doing my head in at the . just but in starter motor on today. thats one start .  i have phoned 3 auto eletricians i feel that thay dont want the trouble in finding the problem?if thay cant plug in the car into a laptop etc. not givin up  mine is an 88 clipper us it daily. thanks kavlfc get that one check . dek
