I'm hoping someone will be able to help me here, as i'm rapidly running out of ideas and reaching for the matches!
I have a Mk1 1.8 Golf Clipper 1989, which has electrical issues. It keeps blowing ignition modules, which is getting expensive. Latest one lasted about 20 miles!!
I have replaced the coil, leads, dizzy cap & rotor. Checked all the earths etc.
I have swapped the Distributor for another second hand one purchased on Ebay. And it is still blowing the module.
Latest one died on my last Friday night.
The AA came to rescue and the chap did an indepth check of the electrical ignition system. And his conculsion was that the ignition module had blown again. I asked if he had an idea what might to causing this and his guess was the Hall Effort sensor in the distributor was causing this.
Does anyone know of anything else which might cause a problem as i'm getting the same problem with 2 different distributors!
I guess both distributors could be at fault, but this is getting expensive and i don't want to replace distributor or hall effect senor both of which are about £175 each if that is not the cause.
Some help or advice would be appreciated
