1st speed in-op on blower

Any advice please on why my blower/fan unit only works on 2nd and 3rd speed, not 1st speed. I've tried another 3 speed dash switch, but no change. Does the resistor on the heater unit under the scuttle tray control all the speeds?

I would appreciate some advice on this problem please

Hi, my blower also only works at fan speed 2 and 3. Do you still have these replacement resistor units?

I have same issue, it's not the resistor as this was replaced because it had melted the basket cover And I thought it was the problem.  Only realised this shortly after buying the car when I was investigating why the fan was not working on setting one. It has turned out to be worn/minor corrosion to the  bearings on the blower. Basically as the motor is not spinning freely enough setting one does not provide  enough power to move it which does cause the resistor to heat up rather a lot. Setting two does provide enough power and I'll stand corrected but setting three does not use the resistor or bypasses it somehow but basically that's ok. Depending how bad the bearings are they can be freed up with some spray, or it's a replacement job. I did manage to free up a completely siezed one for a local member but it was that bad that it would only work on setting three. I would recommend though you don't leave the heater on setting one as I found the plastic basket melted on mine so could be a fire hazard.
I can't guarantee you all have the same fault but there's only a few parts to the system and if you've tried everything else then I would try that next.

i guess after seven years of ownership, new engine, interior, audio, dash, engine conversion, gearbox, loom, tank, fuel system, brakes, running gear changes, it may be time to actually look at the fan. :-)

Maybe one for this weekend, and I do keep it on at 1 all the time even though it doesn't work. Time to get the meter out. even more embarrassing when I admit I'm a spark!!  :$
