1989 Golf GTi Fuel Relay

Hi, I have the car as stated in the title. It is a 1989 but the engine has been transplanted for a Digifant 1.8 8v. It is experiencing running problems and the fuel pump outside the tank was not getting power. I got power to it from another source and it ran and then continued to run after the power source was removed. Once it was running it was ok for around 10 mins then it started to labour and wouldn't accelerate at all. Is this a problem linked to the relay number 2? Would changing it solve the issues or is there something I am missing?
