16V temperature gauge sits full up with the red light flashing occasionally

My 16v KR temperature gauge sits full up with the red light flashing occasionally, am I right to assume it’s a faulty sensor? Or could it be wiring? It's not running hot.

If it is a sensor which one would it be and where is it located?

look for the red/yellow wire, it should run to 1 of the 3 sensors in the side of the head. they should all be the same rating, black collar type

  Had a similar problem with flashing red Temp light. Eventually traced to faulty level sensor in Expansion Tank - this after trying 2 yes2!! new sensors, both of which proved faulty in differeht ways. Latest offering from GFS was the cheapest and fixed the problem.
