diesel engine options?

hello guys,

my golf 1.8 8v is a tired old engine. ive been looking to change to a diesel lump but have a few questions, obviously id love to put a pd mk4 golf engine in but seems a mega task.

what i would like to know is which is the easiest td mechanical pumped engine to drop into my mk1?

performance isnt an issue because the mrs drives it mainly. i have a 1.9td abl engine in my t4 and these are fairly easy to come by if someone said that there fairly easy to fit.

i have a 1.6td engine in the classifieds.
its from a mk2 gtd 80bhp standard but fairly simple to get 100+bhp, easy straight drop in job too..
