1.6 DIESEL ENGINE

I finally got my golf started today for the first time in one and a half years . It is now starting alright but when i rev it there is a bit of a bang in the engine. A mechanic told me that the propshaft might be damaged does this sound right and are they difficult to change?. Also it used one gallon of diesel to start it and drive it a few feet and there seems to be a lack of power . If anyone has any solutions please let me know.
THANKS :)

Is this a wind up? You put petrol into a diesel to start it? And, FWD cars don't have propshafts!

the banging is probably crank not prop as there aint one
Putting petrol in will scrap the pump if you run it too much,no lubrication.

A leak!

I dont think there is a leak because i am feeding the diesel through a bottle directly to the engine. If the timing was out by a bit would this cause high fuel consumption?

I think I know what?s happening.  All VWs have a return line to the tank, petrol, diesel, fuel inj or carb it doesn?t matter. I think 90% of your diesel is in your tank.

It?s draw it out of your bottle and used a bit in running the engine and returned the surplus to the tank.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
