Wheel bolt size? 14" Pirelli p slot, 1990 clipper

Post

When I put the p slot wheels on I've got I want to tidy up the old wheel bolts on the car but also get a locking wheel bolt set, am I right that the size for alloys is M12x1.5 and 23.5mm long? And do they need to be a tap bolt for alloys? As in if the car has alloys on it I won't have to change the wheel bolts? Cheers

yes you are correct with the bolt spec, just be sure they are ball seating and not taper

Okay thanks, when you say ball seating is that the same as "radius bolt"?

Haha thanks mate, how far can you go with the length of the bolt? The rad bolts on vw heritage are 3mm

one way to try is poke your bolts thru the wheel and measure how much sticks out, then add the extra length to that and thread that much into the discs and drums to see if they bottom out. worst case you can always cut the bolts down, ideally thread a nut/tap to the bolt first then when you unwind it'll fix the end of the thread if slightly damaged

That's a good idea thanks, also how can I know what bolts my car has on it now, it has bbs style alloys on it I was assuming these bolts will still work?

Will do! But I mean will it be an obvious thing to spot? Eg if it's a tap bolt will it not physically fit in the p slot or sit right?

you can thread in the wrong bolt, the seating isnt that different. its obvious when you look at the bolt once removed though ;)

oem vw bbs wheels are all radius, 14" ras and bmw ones are tapered. cant tell just from the wheel though, as maybe the guy who fitted the wheels didnt know what bolts to use ;)

Right okay, not really sure what I'm looking for but my guess is they are the original bolts

easy, check the shape of the bolt seat it'll either be rounded or a straight angle, and measure the thread length thats what '23.5mm' refers too :)
