What sort of DA machine should I be buying

Post

I want to start learning how to use one of these to remove swirls and holograms on my paint work.

Don't want to do anything major just some polishing etc.

For a beginner what machine and pads would people suggest I go for?

Thanks in advance

I have a Porter Cable DA it's 10 yrs old and had to be imported from the States at the time, there was nothing over here.  I did think of changing it last year as it was so old and starting to vibrate too much, but decided as my cars are pretty perfect wouldn't get much use out of a new one apart from minor swirl removal which the old one was stil fine at.

What I did though was shop around quite a bit, looked at all the reviews, particularly on Detailing World, and had  decided on a DAS 6 Pro.  It's the cost of all the pads and polishes that can bump up cost so sometimes an all in package us worthwhile.

Look at this one on here from one of our supporters - should get some discount as a paid member as well.  I can definately vouch for the company get most of my stuff from there, and if you are local enough you can collect.

if you want some help getting to use it, I don't think I am that far away from you in South Derbyshire, happy for you to pop over sometime.

Just to throw it out there….

I bought one of the cheaper range of Rotary Polishers. I think it was around £50 from a local supplier.

After reading about the differences between DA's and Rotaries I was a little concerned about burning paint etc but tried it out anyway.

With practice and by just being gentle with it I got amazing results. With a bit more practice and use I've got more comfortable with it and it works really well.
I've removed minor imperfections on all the cars, completely restored the paint from pink back to red on the cabby and after respraying the front of my toyota (the wife crashed it, shhhh) I was even able to get a perfect finish on that too.

Don't be scared of considering Rotaries! They tend to be cheaper and will do more 'hard work' faster and easier than a DA.

Horses for Courses i suppose. Good Luck!
