If you look on partbase too, for 1985 MK2 for example it lists the 171 part number (MK1) and 191 (MK2) part numbers on the same wheel

partsbase.org

Hope that helps too ;)

:(  carefull, its not as straightforward! mk1 caps are very loose in a mk2 wheel ! i lost one driving down the a47 some time ago. The cap in question was with the raised pirelli logo (i spent two nights walking down the road looking for it, but no luck im afraid  :P
and vice versa, the mk2 blank cap is extremely tight in a mk1 wheel, so much so that getting it in, or back off again is very difficult.

Im away at work at the moment so cant take any measurements or part numbers im afraid

Do it once and do it right! ok, we've identified the problem, lets not make it worse by guessing……… Identifying the sympton is not the same as understanding the cause :)
