Mars Red paint woes... Rain water marking.

Post

Hi guys, hoping someone might know how I can stop this happening.

All through the winter it never happened once. It last happened a couple of weeks ago. It seems it happens when water dries on the car. Washing does not remove the marks at all. Given my lack of products I had to clay, then super resin to remove the marks, which still stayed there ever so slightly.

I didn't have a wax on the car the first time, just a fair few layers of Poorboys Diamond Glaze. I had to do an emergency clay + SRP to get it off again last weekend. This time I used the Glaze, then Nattys paste wax thinking that would stop the rain getting through.

Not in the slightest, got back to this today…

It appears to be in the paint, not on it. Really bugging me now, any pointers?

Your red is a solid only isn't it? All reds fade  - badly. Solid + clearcoat or metallic + clearcoat don't fade (because the clearcoat protects the paint underneath).

T-Cut?

Good wash and dry.
If ya can polish and wax.
Polish will get rid of any water marks and then wax will protect the finish.
A quick detailer will help in between wash or after, it's like a spray polish/wax.

I don't know to be honest, I know it's been resprayed so it may of had clearcoat… I know reds fade but surely it's not normal to have white patches that appear over such a short period of time and don't wash off?

I gave it a good wash and dry last night, it literally did nothing lol. The polish does seem to get it off a bit, but clay seems the most effective. I had really layered up the glaze so I'm wondering if that is why it's going funny.
I went over it with natty's paste wax thinking that would stop the rain affecting the paint. Perhaps I didn't use enough, or should of done it more than once.

Just a pain to have a clean car all weekend at shows, then get it home, it rains and ruins it.

Claying will remove all everything you put on the paint.
You start from scratch, good wash (use fairy) and then clay and re wash.
Dry.
Polish.
Wax.

Don't consider use washing up liquid on your car ! It contains vast amounts of salt and all you are doing is washing it into places it can't get out from easily.
If its been re-painted then its most likely a 2K that's been used. I would say give it a good wax using something like Mer or Autoglym, they even do a car shampoo.

It's fine if starting to from scratch to remove all previous polish and protection, clay will also remove any residue. Second wash will further more remove residue, ready for fresh polish and wax layers.
Also using ipa between stages will help.

Idealy you need a cutting polish, something more aggressive than Autoglym Super Resin Polish to remove the staining, one you are happy with the paintwork the best way to protect it for the longest possible time is to use a paint sealant as these contain UV absorbers which will help to keep fading and oxidation away for a long time. Waxes offer protection but not in the same way. You can then add a layer of wax on top of the sealant for extra durability and gloss.
