Cabriolet Roof - Products?

Post

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and would like some advice on what to use to clean the roof on my mk1, I've tried steam cleaning it gently incase it damaged the roof but really it didn't even touch it, I'm new to cars and this is my first so please bare with me! I bought it yesterday so will be working to get it looking a lot better as soon as possible :)

Here's my car and the pictures of the dirty roof - Does anyone know what product(s) will make the roof nice and clean?

Will it be easier to check out the link I have on my Facebook page? I can upload pictures to here if anyone can't access Facebook!

Thanks in advance for any help
Courtney

67tomi  might be able to help you, look at the pictures further down this thread of the cleaning of his roof, hopefully he can tell you what was used, as cream roof not far off your white one.

There's been some threads on roof cleaning, I can't quite remember the fluids used and don't try on my word but maybe check them out - vinegar in water iirc.

When you do use something new try it on a non obvious part first in case it stains material.

If it's mohair use a good horsehair brush.

Do you have a Vinyl or Mohair top?
It makes a huge difference!

It really helps us and in turn you if use photobucket.com because no one wants to jump platforms just to see a picture.
It's not rocket science but if it is, here's a 'How To Guide':

My volvo cab was left under some trees for a few months over summer and roof was covered in sap, moss  i just used a 50/50 mix of tfr and water put it on with a sponge left it half hour and then jet washed it off came up like new with no scrubbing or hard work involved and alot cheaper than using most other products.

For my vinyl hood I used this product. It was a lot cheaper than cat products and didn't damage the hood at all.

They are old photos now but you get the idea. The product can be purchased from window/ conservatory outlets.
