Description:
I bought this car from a member of this forum in 2014. It’s been a great friend to me. However, I am in the process of emigrating to the USA and as hard as it is i need to say goodbye. Originally i was considering keeping it garaged - however i feel that in light of the fact it needs to be maintained and have odd jobs and work done to it to get it back up to scratch of what it could be i think it only fair to pass it on in the community. Ideally I am looking for a speedier sale hence the lower price BUT also i think that this car should go to someone who will look to continue to maintain and improve its condition long term. If no joy here i will look to sell on eBay and/or Autotrader but wanted it up on here for a week first.

I drive it most weekends when I have been in the UK. I’ve done long trips, short trips and been all over with it. More recently i have started to take extended trips to America for 2 or 3 weeks at a time but it’s used whenever i am back.

As with most old cars it has its slight quirks but it runs and passed it’s MOT earlier this year with a few advisories. Ideally i would iron out all the small issues before selling but i just don’t have the time at the moment due to being away so frequently.

15” Le Castellet alloy wheels

It has a fully functioning electric mohair hood that is completely water tight. Electric front windows (manual rear).

It has a ‘Toad’ alarm system w/ immobiliser.

Work that has been done since I got it:
- the clutch cable entry point through the bulkhead was in a right old state when i got it. It has been repaired and now has no problems. As well as this other parts of the clutch cable have been replaced professionally and the clutch in general is now in great shape - when i got it this was this biggest flaw.

- Rips and tears in the fabric of the seats have all been repaired and are now in very good condition. However, there are a few knobs and turners missing for the drivers side seat that need to be sourced and fitted that i haven’t got round to.

- Fuel filler neck replaced due to near complete disintegration when i got it.

- 4 x new tires this spring

- New battery fitted Jul 2017

- All interior speakers replaced, radio replaced.

- Numerous other jobs and things done in servicing and MOTing

Other notes and known issues:

- There are numerous nicks, chips and scrapes to the exterior that are to be expected with a car of this age.

- The fuel gauge and rev counter are currently not ‘working’. From research i think this is a small fix and will attempt to fix before it is sold.

- Windscreen wipers only work on ‘fast’. This can be fixed with a replacement relay (about 6 quid from VW Heritage) but i just never got round to it and if it rains the wipers work fine as is.

- non-original carpet in boot. But everything else bar the radio seems original or at least looks so.

- Heater blowers are intermittent. Think it needs a new Heater Fan motor - £35 from VW Heritage.

- Missing handbrake cover.

- The car comes with:
    - additional door cards
    - numerous matching seat covers (used to fix the fabric on the seats)
    - Full interior carpet (because you never know)
    - Cover for the retractable roof when down.
    - A huge folder filled with receipts, service book, MOT certificates and information on previous owners (compiled by the last owner).

- The previous owner was in the forces and had the car exported to Germany and then reimported so there are gaps in it’s DVLA history if doing a background check. Evidence of this is with the documentation that comes with it. The windscreen still has the Forces base sticker - i think it’s kind of cool.

- Most recent MOT (March ’15) had the following advisories:
    - Slight corrosion on brake pipes
    - Minor leak on exhaust
    - Rear wheel bearings have slight play offside.

Wherever I go this car get’s attention and I am often asked by garages and passers by if it’s for sale - but like i say - I’d like to keep it in the community and make sure it goes to someone that’s interested in keeping it running.

In my opinion this would be a great car that can be enjoyed as is for the rest of the summer before garaging and having a small and achievable project over the winter ready for next.

Please get in touch if you are interested.
