Mk1 GTI in Lhasa Green with 4 headlamp grille, had been garage stored for 14 years until end of 2010. She has been subject to a full mechanical restoration to get her back on the road and is a very reliable runner (lots of pictures available on request). The restoration work included replacement of engine oil seals, water pump, all coolant hoses, radiator, alternator, starter motor, plugs, HT Leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil, cam belt & tensioner etc. All fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel pump relay have been replaced with new items. All brake lines replaced with new, new master cylinder, new rear slave cylinders, shoes & drums, new front callipers, pads & discs, Goodridge braided flexible hoses, front wishbones, all bushes renewed with polybushes, including engine mounts, new dampers & adjustable coilovers, new Toyo tyres, track-rod ends (and one track rod), wheel bearings all round. Fuel filler neck has been replaced and the fuel tank cleaned completely; there are no issues with rust in the fuel causing erratic running.
Engine was replaced some years ago (all receipts present, plus huge complete service history), and current DX engine has done 85,000 miles. Tailgate and both door seals recently replaced, original carpets and unmarked headlining. Seats have been re-upholstered but original upholstery is included in the sale if you want to return to the original interior. Fitted with original specification Alpine SXE-4625S speakers in original door speaker mounts. Fitted with set of three VDO gauges all of which are working correctly.
Recent full service which has included oil & filter, air filter, brake fluid, fuel filter, HT leads, distributor cap & rotor arm and cam belt. Recently upgraded alternator to a 65A output unit and fitted new battery. Has had a minor amount of welding to the rear of the spare wheel well in the boot and rear half of the offside sill including inner & outer wheel arches and the front nearside wing replaced with a pattern part. The body is now completely rust free. Inner wheel arches have all been cleaned thoroughly and coated with stone guard and over-sprayed with Lhasa Green. No rust present in the arches, sills, front or rear panels or scuttle, this is a solid rust-free shell.
Paintwork is mostly original and OK, but not concours and would benefit at some stage from a re-spray to bring her back to her former glory. Only selling to make room for an MG Midget hill-climb project car.
Open to sensible offers in the region of £4500.
