What servo do I have and what one should I have? 85 Cabby Gti

https://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/uploads/pbextract/1437621/20140807_162458_zpsvpda9nej.jpg

(I can't seem to add a pic on my phone so this is a link to one on my project thread)

The reason I ask is because I finally got the car started  and the servo has failed, sucking the brakes on! Also, the one I currently have goals the header tank so the tank can't sit properly.

Cheers

From the photo that looks like the larger mk2/mk3 item that often gets fitted to tintops. Do the later soft tops have this as standard?,  i have no idea..

I would check you have not got a badly adjusted linkage as not normal for them to suck the brakes on if they fail. the linkage that runs across the bulkhead has threaded ends to adjust the length, it should not be under tension

actually looking at the pic it looks like you may have a mk1 master cylinder fitted on a mk2 9 inch servo which would explain it

Thanks guys. Think I'm going to revert back to the 8 inch and use the same mc. The car came like it and the brakes worked 5 years ago.

Anyone got an 8" servo for sale?

Symptoms of a Failing Power Brake Booster:

Hard brake pedal that is extremely hard to push
Longer stopping distance
Engine stalls when brakes are applied
Prior to replacing your Power Brake Booster:

Ensure the Vacuum Hose is properly connected and not loose
Check the Vacuum Hose for a blockage or leak
Inspect the Check Valve for cracks, looseness or damage
Testing your Power Brake Booster:

With the engine off, pump the brakes 5-6 times
Turn the engine on while pushing down lightly on the brake pedal
If your brake booster is working, the pedal will sink down about ¼"
If your brake booster is not working, nothing will happen or the brake pedal will push back against your foot

They are avail over here, and there are plenty of respected rebuilders, I don't know if they do shipping overseas.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
