I've taken a look at the link, and thought it had a section where you could perhaps type in the VIN into a database. This would then hopefully confirm whether it's a genuine Campaign model.

Maybe I've missed the point, but have had a good scour around this and other sites prior to asking this question.
I'm looking to reconfirm from VW or an authenticated database whether a certain car is a Campaign

Hi,
I don't think such a database exists.
If yours has everything in the article you linked to then you can call it a campaign.
It appears that Campaign was just a VW marketing exercise done for the last cars before the Mk2 came along - the best evidence we have of this is shown in the letter on this page:

Many thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.
This kind of allays my fears somewhat, in that this particular vehicle has all the hallmarks of a Campaign.
My only concern is whether the VIN plate is original as it's a brass colour.
I always have seen the original plate as white text on black plates

one of my vin plates has gone a bit of a funny colour but the etching is still clear.
the chassis number is stamped into the rain tray so if the numbers match then I would assume its genuine
the options sticker is in the boot would confirm if its a campaign.

Personally i emailed, wanted the info on my car as it was all white, prev owner wasn't clued up... go in google, do a translate, English to German, copy/paste it in a mail
& it only took a few days to get a reply. Gave me all the engine number, what 'edition'/spec the car is, BHP etc - but obviously couldn't tell me the 3 number add ons which are British codes..

I sent an email here:

A response was received pretty quickly for this to obtain a birth cert.
