Testing The Water - MK1 Gti Shell

Post

Hi all

This is a bit of a different one, and apologies if I have posted it in the wrong section.

I have been working on a project MK1 (GTi) shell, but due to a change in circumstances (property purchase), I am potentially looking to sell, as whilst I can keep in garaged, I will not have the funds for a very long time to complete it, which in my opinion is a waste - Especially as the garage costs me each month.

I am in a position where I may be able to keep it, but the funds will come in handy, but if it really isn't worth a lot of money, I wont sell it.

In short, I guess my question is, how much could I expect to get for it.

The shell was stripped back, with the rust cut out, and needless to say is now a solid car. The shell has just been re-painted, all with genuine VW panels, has an ABF engine fitted, which is on twin carbs, and comes with coilovers and a new roof lining. The glass is also installed and ready to go.

To finish the car it will need the interior fitted, which can be supplied at an extra cost, a fuel filler neck, and a battery, and that's pretty much it.

Can someone give me a rough idea at all?

I can get pictures, but would have to go to the garage to take some.

Thanks

David

Hi David wannabemk1owner

I've moved your post to this section, when you've finalised a price you can post in the for sale section (no one can reply to a thread in that section)

Always a difficult one to call on a part-finished car. Best to get some pics up, that would help us. Is the engine running?

Cheers
Andy

Thanks Hairyarse .

The ABF is all plumbed in, but not had it fired yet - All it needs is a battery, and the earth wires installed and she is good to go!

I will try to sort some pictures out.

David,
You do need to post up pictures and a lot of them with more overall info about the car, year etc… all the details.

I'm ex-trade.
And this is a bit like you phoning me up and asking me to value your car for cash.
My reply would be, "Hold it up to the phone and I'll take a look".

To try to value anything blind is high risk to say the least!

You've kinda contradicted yourself here. If it really just needs a battery and earth wires, its about £30 and you'd be bonkers not to complete it.

If its never been run and will need a lot of time to troubleshoot the install, with a bunch of missing engine parts and other issues like not painted, or no interior, then it won't be a quick fix and hence can only really be priced as an incomplete project. These go for very little money, you'd probably be better off breaking it (would make more money).

No contradiction at all.

There is minimal work i.e. an interior, finish off connecting the engine up, and ultimately tune the engine, but I didn't say that would finish the car - I cannot put ANY money into it at all at the moment, and wont be for the foreseeable future, so it will be wasted standing there.

I need tyres, and other small bits and pieces that I just cannot outlay for at the moment.

Why will there be troubleshooting? And why are there missing engine parts?

The car has had a full re-spray?

Long and short of it, it will be a freshly painted shell, but with the ABF engine as I don't want the hassle of splitting it again. The coilovers will stay as I don't have other suspension, and the glass is in, so why take it out?

I am happy to sell the interior separately, BBS' separately, small bumpers separately and the other 'goodies' but I really don't want to have to undo what I have started,

Why is your link to your build thread not working ?

As the thread would give people a great look at what's been done and what needs done.

The list of parts required is increasing with every post!

An engine conversion which has never run…….will need either a stroke of luck, or a bit of troubleshooting to get it going.

Anyway, best of luck with the sale, etc

Regrettably, I didn't keep my build thread going, but I will sort some pictures out.

Its been said really it wont be worth the money you have in it, it does look good standard work for sure, but you wont get back labour cost's (paint)

As paul says too, conversions always have hic ups regardless of the person doing it, not an attack to you.
