Silent Coat Sound Proofing - Help

Post

So, car interior has been removed and I'm ready to start sound proofing the old girl tomorrow.

Has anyone used the Silent Coat products as that's what I'm using, and has tips as how best to install this product please…?

I'm using mat volume pads and then isolator sheets over the top through out the entire interior area of my 1988 cabby.

Thank you as always.

I did my t5 with it and not impressed tbh, yeah you can tell the difference when you tap the panel but not sure I saw a reduction in road noise.

I would think that you would also need to do the inside of the door and rear quarter panels, as well as the Boot, and under side of the rear seat area.  The hollowness of the doors and the door cards can amplify sounds as well, be warned that there are Pucker drains on the bottom of the doors where the outer door skin meets the inner frame, that need to be left uncovered.

Any hollow area is going to amplify any and all sounds

That soundproofing doesn't look as if it is very thick at all.

With the condition of my hearing loss, (Turbine engines droning in my ears for 4 years).  I don't hear too many rattles, but then again I drive with the Top Down, Atomic Batteries to Power, and at sub-light speed.  :)

Don't discount good carpet padding to reduce additional noise, as it is a good muffler as well.

Over here they all prefer Dynamat, but that stuff is a wee bit pricey for me.  100 bucks gets you Self sticky Aluminum Foil backed Butyl Self-Sticky rubber for roofing at the hardware store, More than enough to do about 3-4 Mk1's and it isn't that smelly once it airs out.  In Vert's you hardly notice it at all.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Silent Coat Sound Proofing - Help

Thanks for your thoughts chaps.

I'm about half way through the entire floor pan with the silent mat. Silent Coat will apply tomorrow.

Have plenty of pics to share on a new specific thread once done so I can share my experience with the club / forum.

Sneak peek….

You'll notice the biggest difference in the doors and rear quarters.

I've gone with Silent Coat 4mm, Dodo Matt followed by a generic cheap 5mm self adhesive foam. The Dodo matt helps to stop higher frequency noise and the foam is to stop things from rattling against the harder materials below.

Looks like you're cracking on with it.

Not driven it yet!

MOT later today.

Here's the foam. I used it on the inside of the roof panel and all over everything

I like the foam lots. I even like the finish, kinda want to leave my door cards in just the foam!

They ran out of time during the day due to people being late, so it's with them now!  :(
