regrets?
Oops pressed wrong button. I sold 3. In about 97 to 2000. Went to a mk2 and then a 205gti and for a very short time a mk1 Mexico. By about 2010 I really wanted one back but had no money and no where to keep it. Got mine in 2016 and love it. Just need a house now with a VERY big garage.

bought a boxster I couldn't really afford and missed the golf. bought one again two summers ago–crowbar needed to prise it off me now

No regrets about selling any of my mk1's.
Moved away from them for about 5 years, had beetles, mk2's, and a type 3.
Then I got a swallowtail finally, and I even tried to sell that…. I had to rip it to bits just to stop myself getting rid of it.
My biggest regret is keeping cars for too long, I want as many to go through my hands as possible, life is far too short!

I owned an S1 1.1 that I sold in '91. I also owned for a short time an S2 1.3 about a year later and in the mid 90's I also briefly owned an S2 diesel (which I thought at the time performed really well for a diesel!).
A bit like backinblack, by around 2010 I wanted another one but couldn't really afford it and had no where to put it! Since moved and have a double garage and bought my '83 GTI tintop at the beginning of 2016 and love it too. Definitely no plans to sell! I wish I'd kept the S1 though, I've regretted selling that for a long time now. I always remeber my dad telling me that MK1 Golfs would never be worth anything! I wish I hadn't listened!

2nd car I bought was a dark maroon and faded pink 1981 LD when I was 19 (1991) for £300 drove to fast around a bend hit some ice and fished tailed down the road for 100 yards then ended up side down in a ditch on Christmas Eve, got a farmer to drag it out of the ditch as no point claiming on the insurance so after 3 years of enjoyment it was totalled and sold for scrap…..
2 months later I bought the Mk1 Scirocco I still have now then that needed some welding so took it off the road and I bought my 1988 Mk1 Golf cabriolet from my Mum in 1999 (which she bought in 1994, she sold her Mk2 Scirocco storm to my brother and I bought the Mk1 Scirocco from my brother) Ive been driving the Golf since so only regret is crashing the LD as I may of still had it now… Had a couple of Mk2 Golf GTi for a short time, last one I wish I did not have to sell but just got the Mk1 Scirocco on the road and getting married, 3 cars was just to expensive to run….

Love your stories guys. Remember seeing a drawing of a beetle cab when I was learning German at school. I wanted one-have never bought one but had a couple of beetles. I just love the crispness of the Golfs lines though, just a tinge I've not bought its earlier cousin but this Golf is a keeper

Well I've only bought one that I've owned for 5 years but it took 5 years to find.
Bought and sold hundreds of the back in the 80's working for VW Dealership for 5 years.
Having run 'Guess the Asking Price' for 5 years (see link below) and if I'd of had suplus cash and a large storage space (which I don't) I'd own a least 5 now and bought and sold 50 more making myself a small fortune.
I've got 5 grandchildren.
3 children, 1 ex wife and 1 current equalling 5.
Sigmund Freud where are you when I need you! 🤔
Go figure! 😂 👍🏼

Love it,
I have that dream of hoovering up a load of cabs and running a hire business -except nobody would be allowed to get them dirty
