Pricing advice please

Hi guys - I'm after a bit of advice please.

I am reluctantly having to sell my 91 Clipper Cabriolet in Capri Green (LA6U). Unfortunately she has a gear box problem (stuck in 3rd gear - stick wont shift) which looks like it will require a new one and I can't justify spending the money on it at the moment in time as there are a few other things that need to take priority at home - have been ESTIMATED £700 to repair. So sadly I have to part with her.
I have been offered £1100 but I just wanted to know if this is a fair price?? The guy who offered that is a mechanic and can do the gearbox work himself, though I appreciate parts cost and it will take up his time.
She is clean, 177k miles, MOT til May 2015, Tax til end Nov, power hood.
Most recent work:

• 2 x rear coil springs + 3 x new tyres (May 2014)
• Front exhaust pipe and brackets (May 2014)
• New external window scrapers - front and rear (Jan 2014)
• Rotor arm, distributor cap + fuel filter (Apr 2014)
• New front brake pads + brake master cylinder (Dec 2013)

Scuff on back bumper, and worn front drivers seat bolster.

Also….I dropped by the MK1OC stand at VWNW this weekend, some beauties   Makes it all the more harder for me to have to see mine go

Seems a pretty fair price.

£700 seems a bit steep to me there's plenty of 2nd hand boxes to be had round the forums even reconditioning your own wouldn't be that bad ,bit the bullet an keep it I say they ain't makin them anymore !!!   ….

I'd get a 2nd and 3rd opinion on the gearbox problem before selling it cheaply if I were you!
