I'm lucky that I never get nervous as my mum owns a garage with MOT station so free MOT's and garage facilities to keep the golf running smooth.

drivers side ball joint (easy cheap fix)

anyone any tips on getting the blue light working?

I went to get the clocks out, but only got part way, could not release them, but when I put it all back together everything was working. Think it wax the main wiring plug at the base of the clocks. Might be worth just pressing everything together - if your lucky just a loose connection.

It does seem pretty random but when it's not put back on right or at all all sorts of electric gremlins can creep in!

ball joint arrived today, will fit tomorrow night.
dropped the car off at a local auto tune place, they are going to look at reducing the co2 tomorrow.
cant say the filled me with confidence, the guy didn't seem overly impressed about working on an old car. I also asked them to check the ignition timing. He then asked if it had a distributor? WTH?
Anyway its its there now so well see what happens.
will update tomorrow night.

had the car in for a tune up, mixture settings, idle adjusted and ignition timing. Feels great money well spent.
ball joint fitted, removing the old ball joint was a right pain. Once I got a decent drill and new drill bits it was easy in the end. It's amazing what having the correct tools can do to making a job a bit easier. Anyway another success story no more knocking noises, steering wheel has now returned to centre position and the steering fells more responsive. Amazing for a part that cost £7
The main beam tell tale light saga continues, changing the fuse seems to have made this an intermitting problem. Just need it to work for the mot then can deal with it later. Try and get the mot signed of tomorrow!
Let you know how I get on.
