Importing Parts To UK

Post

Just some friendly advice if you're striking out here or Europe when looking for parts - try Rockauto.com in the US

I have bought from them over the years mostly for American car parts & they have been great. As they are based in the US remember to search under the name Rabbit for tintops/early cabbys (Golf for later cabbys). They always do a 5% discount so do a search to find the latest code

I just bought the hard to get hold of rear rubber bushes for the rear shocks which seem to be out of stock everywhere (171512333 and 171512335). Both cost me £20 including vat & delivery! That's actually cheaper than buying here even if they did have it in stock lol.

They also do pretty cheap reconditioned G60 calipers including the elusive carriers but triple-check the part numbers you order are correct to get them right or you'll get the 16v carriers in error which will not go over the 280mm discs, they did this to me once through their error but then it was sorted (think I searched under '90 Corrado supercharged to get the right ones but do your own homework to get it right & you'll get a bargain)

Wow, I usually don't have issues with ordering parts from non-UK or USA vendors, I wonder why?  :)

Rock Auto is the on-line version JC Whitney of old.
But for large ticket items ie: Starters, Alternators, and things I stay local, it is easier to get replacements, and I don't have to ship the bad one back to have it tested and then replaced under warranty…I bought an alternator on line for one of my cars, and it went bad.  I had to buy a new one, Pay shipping, then Return the old one (pay for shipping) to have it tested by them before they would issue a refund of the cost of the alternator only and not the Triple shipping costs….The wait for refund was about 3 weeks.  Just my 2 cents.

Just my two pennies, but I feel Techtonics Tuning, (http://techtonicstuning.com/) based out of Oregon, deserves a mention.
They ship internationally and have always been at the top of the list in customer service in my books. Well known for both performance and maintenance and have been around for eons.

Save for the fact that they love their products so nicely they are priced the same…. :)

I will say their SS dual down is a well mad product that mates with a g60 4-2 manifold.

A place which is very often over looked is the VW dealer…. Sometimes things are cheaper from the dealer than I've seen on ebay!

If you can find the part number before calling the up I've found 7 times out of 10 they will search for the part but sometimes when they can't be bothered to help they just say the cars old and parts are no longer avaible….
