golf gti tyre size's

hi can some one please tell me what size tyres a 1981 1600 gti would be wearing on its tarrantula rims

ps i think they are suppossed to be 175/70/13 but im not 100% sure

I had a similar question for my 1983 GTi. In the end I went for the 175s as originality was what I was looking for. A good choice of tyres available, i was able to get a good deal.

Looking at my 1980 Brochure it quotes 175/70 R13. But this was for the original style wheels which were 5J x13 - are tarantulas 5 1/2 j x13 though. However 1983 mk2 Scirocco brochure listing tarantulas also states 175/70 13.

I am probably wrong but i did not think the 81 GTI came with Tarantulas, i thought they had a different alloy wheel.

However my 83 GTI has Tarantulas with 175/70/13 tyre's on them.
