Yup scam!

There's a lot going on and some a lot more convincing too. On another car forum I've seen a few people recently lose £10k+ sums of money when scammers have setup bogus companies with names the same of genuine ones, and cars have been paid for up front.

It's a shame it goes on but you need to have your guard up always!

The convincer is that they say it is all protected by eBay and PayPal, but what gave it away was that they would email and link for the private auction on eBay, which would be fake, so that eBay would not uphold it

I had this loads when looking for a replacement 3.5T horsebox for my wife recently.

The amount of scams out there using this system is so bad, you can see how people get caught out.

One of the latest ones, is people stealing ebay ID's as well, then asking you to email them directly about everything and they just scam you

So bad, people work hard to buy things, wish all the scammers would do one !

I've just had contact with the same person, based in Falmouth who is now selling a Mk2 Austin A40 Farina. The car was for sale on eBay last week by the Owner, unsold for £11,500, now this person is advertising the same car for £4900, using same photos, etc..!!

Beware - scammers!!

To be fair anyone looking at an Austin A40 deserves what they get.  :P

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm a Wolseley 680 man myself.

  • 1978 MK1 GL 2 door with 2.0 16v ABF, twin 40's, Recaros, lots of suspension mods. I'll get it back on the road one day.
  • 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door. Was my daily doing over 1000 ks a week until it hit a truck. RIP. Got another one now and loving it!
  • 1991 MK2 GTI 4 door for parts.
  • 1998 Seat Cupra + another used as a donor for the MK1
  • 1999 Passat Wagon. Needs street cred but at least it's a manual.

Hi mate. I too saw the ad on Dudley and the Golf looked real good for £3200 which got me exicted as this is the colour and spec I want. Now judging by your comments it looks like a scam. She just sent me an email saying she has now moved to Falmouth and the car is now on Ebay. She can offer Free delivery through Paypal payment. I am now trying to call her bluff by saying I will come there and pay her cash. Damn! I thought this was going to be the one! £3200 with a recent respray, I thought I wont get better for the price

Did you get any reply when calling her bluff? I have just enquired about a Golf GTI in Downham Market. £2800 colour and spec I wanted as well. The ad was a bit old but I thought what the heck, if you don't ask you don't get. I have also had a reply from Estelle Molly Skinner located in Falmouth TR112EW, wanting me to Paypal the money through!

I asked to view the car as well and got no reply. I googled the name and he/she/it crops up on others forums doing the same thing. Definite scammer who appears to clone other peoples ads. I wonder how many they actually manage to con!

If this is really a scam and people are being  £fleeced, how come plod's not felt their collar yet, they have names/contact details? Or are they not bothered as people are handing over their money by their free volition???

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I know what you mean, I personally would not buy a car without seeing it and I can't understand why anybody would unless it's from a dealer or reputable garage! Even then I wouldn't be happy. As for the plod, it seems it would be too much effort to chase a fraudster like that even though it can't be that hard to get them if they tried!
