Front Lights

Hi guys as you all know I’ve had some electrical issues with my MK1 golf mainly due to 30 years of bodges.
Today I decided to test the lights, I’ve now managed to get all the rear lights working and tidied the looms, some of the bulb holders where pretty rusted due to water ingress, but as I said there all working now.
I decided to move to the front lights’, forgive me here as I’ve no knowledge of how the front lights should work.
So the switch to the right of the steering wheel has 2 settings, for side lights, and for full lights, the rear lights come on perfect in both switch positions, but only 1 of the front 2 outer lights work in the first and second position, when I put the full beam on the stalk all 4 front lights come on.
What you think chaps, also there’s a fog light switch that’s to the left of the steering wheel what’s this for??

Fog light is located under rear bumper.

On front just change the bulb thats not functining,  and to be fair try changing in pairs as will keep light similar strengths.   middle lights are flash/full beam and are only on when pulled  (flash) or pushed forward(full beam) theres also a upgrade/replacement loom that goes direct to  battery giving much more power giving strong light beam.

Thanks Pal so middle lights are main beam only ? managed to get all my lights working perfectly, just need to change the rear bulbs for red as the after market lenses are not very red.

I've noticed the fog switch has 2 positions but I've only 1 rear fog light, any ideas ??

Hmmm never noticed to be fair. As dont use fog light ever….theres 1 foglight at rear only on the osr that's normal.   

depends what grille it has, original MK1 tintop grille lamps were fog lamps, later/aftermarket were changed to spot lamps.

a single rear fog is normal, only works on 2nd click. 1st click woudl be for front fogs, if the car was specified to have them, which were not standard except for the campaign
