Ebay mk1 parts prices

Not talking about what buyers pay, but what sellers ask. I Have a regular look on ebay to see whats going on, and am amazed at what some sellers are asking for nothing special,   but the scrap/rusty old bonnet for £80 takes the biscuit.

tell me about it

I am just getting mine back on the road from an 8 year spell locked in  the garage with no engine

£1250 for sportline recaros
£200 for late speaker pods
and this takes the biscuit £99 for the panel the fits the centre console to hold the electric window / electric roof switches

I understand parts are getting rare but come on

I've been banging this drum on here since 2013.

It's not only ebay it's most sites except here on our forum.
But that said people here are wise enough not to offer parts at inflated prices here they go to the bigger market places.

They know well enough that they will be laughed at here. 😉

It's that classic mindset.
They search for the same or similar item, find the highest price one and add 20/30% or more.

Someone mentioned Sportline seats for sale for £1,200.
Back in 2014 I went and looked at a full and complete Sportline interior. Everything, all the panels with the speaker pods, speakers and switches. All that was missing was the steering wheel.
The car had done 45k and it was all mint looking.
His fixed price and he wouldn't move on it was €500 so then £420!
I didn't buy it because I thought about and dicided to go with a standard look.

Oh and it won't stop and much can be said about most things we purchase. Houses for example, the same principle! 🤔😒

Ebay mk1 parts prices

The problem is people pay the prices. If buyers stopped paying stupid prices in theory prices will drop. Sellers see that buyers are paying over the top for parts so they add a percentage to theirs. Then making it a upward spiral.

I remember a day you could go to a scrappy and fill ya car for around 30 quid now you would be lucky to get a single bit of trim for that.

O.k. so not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place so if not hopefully someone could move it to where it should be.
So i got the rear side/ door cards off my cabby today expecting to find a pair of speakers in there as there are the grill holes in the cards but absolutely nothing?
Im presuming they have never had any as the plastic membrane was all in tact and looked as though it had never been touched.
Any way my question is has any one got a spare pair for sale or know of any decent aftermarket ones that will fit straight in without drilling.

Cheers.

Quarter panel cards? Speaker pods? Vapour Barriers?  which do you want….

From what I know, the only rear quarter panel cards that were drilled through for speakers were the Cabriolets whether you had speakers or not.

I know that on my 90 Cabby, the vapour barrier didn't have a cut out or pocket for the speakers…

There are probably a set of speaker wires down in the body cavity.. so you may want to look for them, as the speakers were bolted to the inner metal quarter panel.  Whereas the 91.5 - 93 had external grilles on the cards and the speakers then bolted to the grilles to hold it on the card.

I have seen top cover or boot covers on sale on ebay from 25-400 bucks over the years and some of the higher cost ones were missing the plastic bits or elastic straps….

it all comes down to Caveat Emptor, supply and demand….

You can demand most anything, getting someone to pay it is another issue.

The issue between ebay, and classifieds section on most sites is that the members here are more knowledgable to the cost than the newby owner who wants to get it back….

I don't know over the course of the years I have been replacing tops, the number of handles and seals that I have "given" away….

I remember that I saw years ago someone trying to get 15 bucks for the plastic oil stick funnel that you could buy at the dealer for 1….. and at 15 it looked really really used.

Sorry Briano, I've not been too clear there. I presumed that my 90 cabby should of had rear speakers as the card has the perforations in it.
I was just wanting to upgrade the stereo as i only have the two front door speakers and presumed there would be the mounting points behind the card to retro fit a pair of speakers.
So basically i just want a pair of speakers.

Thanks.

Okie dokie…

If you don't have the wires at the rear then you would need to run cables(wires).

As I stated originally on my 90, there wasn't a pocket in the Vapour Barrier The speakers 3.5" were screwed to the frame of the car.

On my 92, and 93 They both had high dollar oem one aktive, and one premium had 4X6 speakers in the rear where there was a Speaker grill over the door card that
held the speakers to the card.  They also had a Pucker in the Vapour Barrier to accommodate the speaker.  Making a Pucker in the Barrier isn't hard just need the plastic (Shower Curtain liners work great as barriers), and a roll of Duct Tape.

You can run the wires from front to back on the side frames of the car as in where the seals are under the carpet.

On the Cabby, the original 90's had 4x6 in the front pockets and 3.5 under the door card in the back.

later as in 91.5-93 had 5 1/4 in the front map pockets, and 4x6 in the rear.

Knew I should have taken Pictures of it when I had it apart when I replaced the speakers about a month ago to install a Bluetooth head unit as the older one died……
