Evening guys, im considering a performance upgrade for my 1.8 gti dx, cams, head work, filter, exhaust.
Any pointers as to what to use and who?
Would I be nieve to think Id see 140/150bhp from that?

I had a Kent GS2 Cam, adjustable vernier pulley, Sebring exhaust, K&N filter and tuned by the Master - Brian Rickets of BR Motorsport back in 1990 and on rolling road developed 128 bhp, engine had only done 50k though.
To be honest you could feel the extra power if you really pushed it, but on the downside lumpy tickover and a bit less low down grunt meaning if I was doing it again I wouldn't bother with the cam too much of a compromise for me.

lumpy tick over would annoy me!
Im looking for a way to give the car a little more kick without an engine swap!

But I wouldn't think you will get near your target bhp without a wilder cam (amongst other things) and the extra revs the target figure will require.

i have a dx with a ported and polished head and tsr cam, its making 131BHP. but its also bored out to a 1.9 but can't see that making much difference to BHP. Was told to get a descent 4 branch manifold and exhaust to increase power but don't think it would ever go near 140/150
