Confused about tin top and cabby S1/small lights

Post

Ok so I was always under the impression that the cabby lights are different to the tintop s1 lights. I've been searching for a set of s1 tintop lights on eBay the last few days and I'm confused because there is people on there claiming the lights they are selling fit both??

they are the same chap! the swallowtail/posty ones are different but only in that instead of white reverse light section they have a red section for rear fogs (i assume)

cabby lights sit slightly differently to series one leaving more of a gap near the hatch edge. running one of each on mine.

is that deffo an S1 difference and not swallowtail? have you got part numbers for them both, assuming they're both genuine?

I did check before but could only find 1 part number for cab and s1 lights, though maybe the s1 units were deleted so long ago they wont even show in data history…

So does this mean you can take cuts off the cabriolet rear panel to make up s1 rear panel for a Tin top? I'm interested in making my 83tin top have swallow tail rear lights

not really since the cabrio panel stops where the useful metal would be for the tailgate hole, the tailgate might yeild some useful panels but it wont be exactly right i dont think plus you would end up with gaps i recon but could be filled easily enough. if you also fitted the plate trim from a cab that might look alright I suppose
